    Salomè Pienaar

    Salomè Pienaar received a Bachelor of Education (Hons) in Special Education from Cape Peninsula University of Technology.  She obtained her teaching license from the South African Council of Educators in 2005.  Salomè has a passion for special needs education and believes that every student has a special gift that needs to be developed. Before moving to Taiwan, Salomè taught at various schools in South Africa. She has been teaching in Taiwan for the last seven years. She enjoys planning different activities to obtain optimal learning in each class. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her family and keeping busy with arts and crafts.

    Luke Mulders

    Luke Mulders received his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Nelson Mandela University. He furthered his education at Nelson Mandela University by receiving a Postgraduate Certificate in Education. He believes that education is a vital tool for students to succeed in life and reach their goals. Luke traveled to Taiwan in 2015 and has worked as an English teacher in a language school, public school and international school. He is very excited to be joining Taoyuan American School and hopes to enjoy his time as an elementary school homeroom teacher. He tries his best to create a classroom environment that stimulates learning in a fun and safe classroom in order to allow his students to reach their full potential. Luke enjoys cycling, working out at the gym and traveling in his spare time.

    Clint B. Rand

    Clint has a Master’s of Education with a focus in Educational Technology from Moreland University in America. Clint also did his teachers certification program through Moreland University and got his teaching license from the wonderful state of Hawaii. Clint got his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Winnipeg in Canada. He also has a TESOL certificate from the Canadian Global Institute in Canada. Clint has his TEFL through Hess Educational Organization in Taiwan.
    Clint has taught in Taiwan for a total of thirteen years with the last two years at Kang Chiao International School in Linkou where he was head teacher for grade one. Clint also taught a year in Pohang, South Korea where he developed his love for teaching. Clint is the grade one homeroom teacher as well as serves as Director of the Elementary School. In his free time Clint enjoys spending time with his family and loves to take them camping in Taiwan. Clint enjoys hiking, swimming, playing board games and travel.

    Vivian Chen

    Vivian received a Bachelor of Education degree in Elementary Education from University of Alberta, Canada. After teaching kindergarten in Canada for a year, she decided to go across the pond to earn her MA in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Others Languages) from Institute of Education, University College London. During her one year study, Vivian had the opportunity to substitute for primary school classes in London. She also enjoyed traveling in Europe and going to the theatres in London West End. Vivian has experience in teaching kindergarten and elementary students overseas as well as high school students in Taiwan. Vivian loves children and believes the crucial impact that education has on them at an early age. She tries her best to create a loving, caring and engaging learning environment for her students. In her spare time, Vivian loves doing outdoor activities such as mountain biking, hiking and she plays badminton weekly. Music is also important to Vivian as she plays the piano and loves to sing while playing the ukulele. Vivian is excited to join the TYAS family!

    Sandy Kan

    Hui Tzu (Sandy) Kan received her Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. Afterwards, she acquired her Master’s degree in Adolescent Education at City University of New York, Hunter College. Ms. Kan taught elementary school at Sacred Heart Greenwich for seven years. Ms. Kan currently holds a full teaching certification and license with the State of New York. She has accumulated significant experience in teaching elementary, middle, and high school students both in the US and in Taiwan. Ms. Kan believes in active learning and that the students learn best through various hands-on crafts, storytelling, experiments, and cultural events.  She hopes to build a positive environment that will not only encourage the students to achieve, but will also guide them to be responsible for their learning.

    Jeff Webb 

    Jeff is from a small town in the state of Iowa that lies in Midwestern America. There he received a Bachelor of Arts in Communications and Asian Studies with a focus in Japanese and Chinese languages. After graduating, he moved to Taiwan and has enjoyed living and teaching English here for over a decade. After discovering his passion for teaching, he worked to obtain teacher certification through Moreland University and was able to become a licensed teacher in the state of Hawai’i. Currently he is teaching 4th Grade and hopes that he can help students discover a personal interest in learning. His teaching philosophy is to get students engaged with the material and to make learning more meaningful. He wants students to cultivate a growth mindset to better prepare them to meet the challenges of the future. In his free time he likes to spend time with his wife, daughter, and son. He also enjoys weight training, gaming, and traveling.

    Elementary Chinese Teacher
    Sandy Kan

    Hui Tzu received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Linguistics from the State University of New York at Stony Brook and Master of Adolescent Education in Chinese Language Instruction from Hunter College, City University of New York. Hui Tzu taught Mandarin Chinese in Elementary school at Convent of the Sacred Heart in Greenwich, Connecticut for 7 years. She moved back to Taiwan in 2016. She currently teaches Elementary Chinese. She loves to travel and experience different cultures.

    Sylvia Chien

    Sylvia joined TYAS in 2018. She was born and grew up in Taiwan. She graduated from Soochow University and majored in Business Administration. After graduating from the university, she was employed as the Customer Service Personel for a shipping company. She enjoys traveling around the world, eating different kinds of foods and baking cakes.

    Tony Lin

    Tony joined TYAS in July of 2018. He graduated from Fu Jen Catholic University and majored in Italian. After finishing his military service, he was employed as an Activity Coordinator and Sales Assistant. In his leisure time, he likes to watch movies and television series, as well as go to gym and swim. Learning new things always gets him excited, and recently he started learning Cantonese. Getting familiar with another language gives him a sense of happiness and achievement.

    Robin Liu

    Robin joined Taoyuan American School in 2018. He grew up in Taiwan and graduated from the Republic of China Army Official School. After graduation, he served in the Army Airborne Special Forces, specializing in integrated combat techniques. He is the general assistant of TYAS. He loves sports, and participates in marathons and triathlons..

    Indigo Hsu

    Indigo joined TYAS in 2018, She graduated from Tainan National University of Arts, majoring material arts and design, and she has been working as an illustrator and a ceramic artist for years. After being an artist-in-residency in US, now she is an assistant in the student affairs office in TYAS. She loves traveling, reading and making ceramic sculptures in her leisure time.

    Amber joined TYAS in 2018. She was born and grew up in Taiwan. She graduated from Chang Gung University of Science and Technology with a major in nursing. She is a Taiwan Registered Professional Nurse and has BLS (Basic Life Support) certification. She loves traveling , listening to music and outdoor activities.
