    Art Teacher 

    Sylvia Chen

    Sylvia has a Bachelor's of Education from National Taitung University, Taiwan, and then she qualified for her teacher certificate the following year. She received a Master of Fine Art from Tunghai University in 2012. Sylvia then worked in art museums and in the art gallery industry, she organized international art fairs and art festivals. She has always respected each child's creativity and likes to design cross-disciplinary art projects.

    She has two children at home and likes to cook , draw, and read during her free time.

    Music Teacher

    Han-Jie Liu 

    Han-jie has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from Fu-Jen Catholic University, Taiwan. She earned a full scholarship and completed her Master of Violin Performance from the Boston Conservatory, USA. Han-jie started her Music teaching career at Marshfield High School, then Hanscom Air Force Base Middle School and Lincoln Public School, all in Massachusetts. Han-jie was the Director and Conductor of the Hanscom AFB Middle School Orchestra. She moved back to Taiwan in August 2012. Han-jie teaches general Music for Grades 1 to 8 and Musical Theatre Production for Grades 9 to 12. She also teaches AP Chinese. Since 2012, Han-jie has coached students in 7 TYAS Christmas / Graduation Performances. She also produced and directed (including music editing and choreography) 7 TYAS high school music productions and received acclaim from audiences.  Han-jie enjoys listening to classical music (especially symphonies) and watching Broadway shows.

    Computer Teacher

    Fine Wu

    Fine earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Tunghai University, Taiwan in 1989, a Master of Science in Biomedical Science from the University of Nebraska - Lincoln in 1996, a Master of Science in Computer Science from the University of Dayton in 2001, and a Ph.D. candidacy in Biological Computation from Wright State University in 2005. Fine started his teaching career as a teaching assistant while pursuing his graduate degree in Computer Science for 2 years. He then served as an adjunct faculty of Computer Science at Central State University in Ohio, teaching computer literacy, data structure, software engineering, etc. Fine is currently teaching Grades 1-8 Computer and High School Computer Science. He has interests in computer applications and stand alone/web programming, including but not limited to the MS office software, Scratch, C++, HTML, CSS and JavaScript. He enjoys watching sci-fi movies and sports.

    Chinese Teacher

    Katherine Cheng

    Katherine joins TYAS faculty in 2021. She holds a Master of Education from National Taipei University of Education and a Master of Linguistics and Applied Linguistics from Shanghai Normal University, Teaching Chinese as a Second Language. She completed Waldorf teacher certificate at Anthroposophy Education Foundation. Katherine currently teaches Elementary School Grade 1 to Grade 3 Advanced Chinese, Grade 4 and Grade 5 Beginner Chinese and High School Chinese Intro. Katherine spent over 10 years of gaining experience in teaching Chinese as a Second Language, working with children aged 7 to 15, college students and adults. 

    Katherine is a mother of 3-year-old twins and feels blessed to be teaching at TYAS. In her spare time, she loves traveling, reading, drawing and knitting. 

      

    Chinese Teacher

    Wei-Cheng Wu

    WeiCheng received a Bachelor of Language Art in Applied Chinese in Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages. I love working with kids. I have experience teaching Chinese programs for elementary, middle school and high school students in France and Singapore. I also had the opportunity to teach for a year in Taiwan. As an educator, I’m passionate about providing engaging learning experiences to all students and encouraging lifelong learning. In my free time, I enjoy hiking, traveling and playing the piano.

    PE Teacher

    Craiglee Sam

    Craiglee Sam is a highly dedicated physical education teacher with more than fifteen years of experience in sports development training with verifiable strengths in engaging, coaching and developing athletes in and
    out of Taiwan. Craiglee Sam studied and lived in Taiwan for over ten years he also graduated from Ming Chuan University, and owned his sports coach certification from the international body of FIBA. Before moving to
    Taiwan he represented his country in sports and received a sports scholarship to university in Portland Oregon. He is highly trained and is prepared in leading the way in the physical health of students.
