At Taoyuan American School (TYAS), we believe that strong partnerships between home and school are essential to every student’s success. To support this collaboration, we hold a Parent-Teacher Conference (PTC) twice each academic year. These conferences provide a meaningful opportunity for parents to connect directly with teachers, gain insights into their child’s academic performance, and work together to create personalized strategies for growth.
Why Parent-Teacher Conferences Matter
Consistent communication between teachers and families has a powerful impact on student achievement. At TYAS, our PTCs are designed to:
- •Provide transparent feedback on academic and social development
- •Strengthen the connection between school and home
- •Build shared strategies to support student success
When parents and teachers work together, students benefit from a unified, encouraging network that helps them reach their full potential academically, emotionally, and socially.
Empowering Parents: Lunchtime Workshop on Emotional Well-being
In addition to parent-teacher meetings, this conference featured a special lunchtime workshop titled:
“Empowering Kids: Emotional Regulation and Stress Management.”
Led by licensed psychologist Dr. Yi-Hsuan Pan, the session provided practical tools for parents to help their children recognize, understand, and manage emotions, especially during times of academic pressure. Topics included emotional awareness, stress-reduction techniques, and building resilience. The workshop was well-attended and warmly received, reinforcing TYAS’s commitment to whole-child education.
What Our Families Are Saying
Following the conference, parents were invited to share their feedback, and the results were overwhelmingly positive. Nearly every parent gave the conference a perfect 5 out of 5 in both satisfaction and usefulness.
Here are just a few of the comments we received:
- “Loved hearing the teachers’ detailed feedback about my kids. I liked the way it was set up—looking forward to the next connection!”
– Parent of G1/G4 students - “Each teacher gave me a clear picture of my child’s progress and suggestions for improvement. Very productive!”
– G6 parent - “The teacher understands my child well and provided detailed insights into their development.”
– G4 parent - “All of our concerns were addressed and solutions offered. I appreciated how the teachers showed a clear path forward.”
– G7A parent
Listening and Growing Together
While feedback was highly encouraging, many parents also offered thoughtful suggestions for future improvement:
- - Longer meeting times with homeroom teachers were a common request.
- - Some suggested including students in the meetings to encourage ownership and accountability.
- - Others recommended offering remote conferencing options for families who live or work outside the area.
- - A few parents also noted a desire to hear more from school leadership regarding curriculum updates and future planning, especially as students prepare for transitions into middle and high school.
Supporting Every Family
As an international school, we understand that not all parents may feel completely confident in English. To ensure clear and comfortable communication, we offered language support services during the conference. This inclusive approach reflects our belief that every parent deserves full access to their child’s learning journey.
Looking Ahead
We are deeply grateful to every parent and teacher who took the time to participate in this semester’s Parent-Teacher Conference. Your engagement makes a meaningful difference in the lives of our students. As we reflect on your feedback and plan ahead, we remain committed to strengthening these partnerships and ensuring that every child at TYAS is supported, challenged, and empowered to succeed.
